Stephan started his legal career with Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa and Ankomah (BELA), while at Bentsi-Enchill he was on the corporate team and later joined the litigation team. In his portfolio of litigation matters, he represented multinational clients in a number of court cases to recover outstanding obligations from clients in Ghana. This included negotiating with clients, monitoring and ensuring compliance with settlement conditions and legal representation in courts. Finally, he participated in some corporate transactions (a) in relation to the listing of SIC Company Limited, the market leader in the insurance sector in Ghana on the Ghana Stock Exchange which included the review of the SIC documentation and the preparation of the legal due diligence report; and (b) the BELA due diligence team for the listing of a local bank. The work included the review of the local bank’s documentation and the preparation of the legal due diligence report. Prior to setting up Afriyie, Dwamena & Associates he was a partner at Ashong Benjamin & Associates. While at Ashong Benjamin & Associates he was ranked by the international legal directory IFLR 1000 as a Next Generation Lawyer. He worked on several cross-border transactions including the setting up of a fuel storage facility in the northern Ghana, providing legal support for the facility for the acquisition of equipment and advising on Ghanaian law. He also conducted due diligence exercises for several transactions and provided legal guidance on the initiation and execution of the transaction.

Since the incorporating of the firm, Afriyie Dwamena and Associates, has provided diverse legal support to a lot of multinational clients. These clients, have included new business seeking to navigate the legal landscape and commence new businesses. The support provided by Stephan and his team has been professional and bespoke. He has also provided support to several transactions and given advice on Ghanaian law in respect of many cross-border deals. These clients have also relied on Stephan and his team for similar robust and client-centered support in dispute resolution either before the Ghanaian courts or through arbitration.
